My breasts are a physical reminder of the most significant period of my life – that being the first 18 months of motherhood. They are soft, stretched and imperfect after 18 months of breastfeeding, but I wouldn’t change that for the world. My breasts nourished the most important person in my universe. They were his comfort, his medicine and favourite toy as his soul settled into this world. My breasts are my most accurate body barometer. Before I even knew I was pregnant, they swelled and ached. When I was seriously ill and under-nourished my milk dried up – an alarm bell that prompted me to take better care of myself. Yes, my breasts worked around the clock for months to give life to my child, but they also took care of me.
